7 Ways to Style a Plain White T-Shirt

A plain white t-shirt is a staple item in any wardrobe. It’s so simple but can be used in so many ways, for both casual and formal outfits. If you are stuck for ideas of how to wear a white t-shirt, here are some to get you started.

  1. With a suit co-ord

Suits aren’t just for the office. You can wear a suit anywhere, and they come in so many different styles; if trousers aren’t for you, there are always the options of skirts or shorts. And, if you aren’t looking for a very formal outfit, you can always try a relaxed suit and there are plenty of different jacket lengths too! This first look may sound incredibly easy but styling a white t-shirt with a suit can make for a very stylish outfit. The suit should be a jacket (it doesn’t have to be too formal; it could always be a more ‘relaxed’ style) and any matching bottoms. Often, you’ll be able to find a matching jacket and skirt or trousers. Finding a set which is bright, like a red or pink, will stand out even more against the shirt, and a matching pair of shoes would complete the look fabulously.

  1. Just casual with jeans

Yes, everyone has considered wearing a white t-shirt with jeans, because it’s so easy, and you can’t go wrong. Not to mention, anyone can pull off this plain jane style, no matter how old they are or what body shape they have. For a relaxed spring / summer outfit, pair the white t-shirt with light to medium wash jeans and some white plimsoll trainers. Adding a grey cardigan, either tied around the waist or being worn normally, would give a little more texture to the outfit, and add some variety. Finish it off with a either a black or tan crossbody bag and belt, and voila! The use of different textures in the denim, cotton and leather all work together really nicely but add some variety. A casual outfit, but very chic!

  1. With cycling shorts

This summer, cycling shorts are trending, and it’s easy to see why. They’re so comfy but they give any outfit a more ‘sporty’ look. Whether you’re just chilling at home or out for the day, you’ll stay comfy and trendy wearing this outfit. What’s great about pairing clothes with a white t-shirt is that any colour or pattern matches. With the cycling shorts, you can either opt for plain black, or jazz things up with a bright or patterned pair – it’s up to you! This outfit looks great with chunky trainers, as they contrast the slim fit of the cycling shorts. Some bold sunglasses will really complete this look, and they’ll look very bossy!

  1. Denim on denim

Denim on denim can be a risky look to pull off, and sometimes it’s really easy to overthink it and end up giving it a pass. For this outfit, you can wear denim on denim with confidence that you will be looking brilliant all day. The use of the white t-shirt also adds an additional texture and ensures that this look isn’t too much by adding a more understated piece. This time, you can choose what colour denim you like, but this outfit generally looks best when the two colours match. For summer, lighter wash jeans look fresher, and same for the denim jacket. Pair with some trainers or anything you find comfortable. A simple pendant necklace which sits just below the neckline of the t-shirt would look really dainty and cute.

  1. A pastel denim skirt

Everybody knows that pastel colours are gorgeous in the summer, and even resemble summer themes like ice cream. Pink is a great example of a gorgeous summer colour and it’s very easy for anyone to pull off. For an added detail, this outfit works great with a white t-shirt which has a small detail or applique on one side (on the chest), but it’s not completely necessary. Tuck in the t-shirt and add either some sandals or white trainers, depending on the look you are going for. A rattan, beach-bag style crossbody has a great summer flair, and obviously makes you think of summer days at the beach. When it’s a crossbody, you can portray this same image but it’s much lighter to carry.

  1. With leather

Leather is very chic, and can either be dressed up or down, depending on what you wear it with. A white t-shirt is known for dressing down outfits and making them seem more relaxed. Wearing leather as a part of a more casual outfit is very stylish, not to mention, the contrast between a white t-shirt and black leather is unique. There are few ways you can integrate leather into a casual outfit, but the first is with the use of jeans and a leather jacket, an iconic piece in every wardrobe. Another way to do this is by wearing leather trousers or leggings. This outfit looks great when styled with lots of jewellery and accessories. The last way to include leather is in your accessories, such as thigh-high leather boots, a black leather bag or anything else you can find!

  1. Casual shorts

One of the great things about summer clothes is that they are so light and airy. Casual summer shorts are an essential for any wardrobe, and they are so versatile. You’ll also be sure that your outfit is breathable no matter what day you have ahead. Pair any colour short you like with a plain white t-shirt and you stay comfy in the warmest of weathers. Khaki is a good option for the shorts, as it is slightly different, and gives off some jungle vibes. Tan leather sandals or simple flip-flops continue the relaxed theme of the outfit and a tan handbag works. The tan and khaki are a good colour combination and the white t-shirt adds some light to this outfit too.
